Transition Fund
The Gaia Trust received a Heritage Lottery Fund "Transition Fund" Grant in March 2015. It has enabled the Trust to secure its long term future and continue to meet its objectives through sound financial and business planning.
Why was the grant needed?
2014-15 was a period of significant change for the Trust. We had expanded considerably with the wonderful gift of the uniquely beautiful and unspoilt 75ha Bodwannick Manor Farm near Bodmin in Cornwall. We are took over the Yarner Trust, an environmental education charity based at Welcombe in North Devon. Both of these acquisitions provided wonderful opportunities for the Trust, but they also greatly increased the Trustees' responsibilities to ensure the best outcomes for the heritage of the properties and for our local communities.
At the same time, and linked to the reasons described above, the Gaia Trust changed from a charity to a Charitable Incorporated organisation (CIO) registered with the Charity Commission (number 1156047).

- Develop business plans for our sites linked to a unifying strong vision that will provide a strong and sustaionable future for the Trust.
- Analayse the opportunities and risks at our propertiesus, and incorporate them appropriately in to our busines and financial planning and decision making
- Develop our governance systems to fit the changing nature of the organisation and to build a robust partnreship network to help us deliver our vision and charitable objects.
- Improve the skills base in the Trust and increase volunteering
